Tax Collections

Bill Delivery
The Tax bill for this coming year will be mailed in the month of July. If you do not receive a bill, it is the responsibility of the tax payer to further investigate whether you are liable to the Town.

Payments After Hours
For your convenience you can leave payments during closed office hours in the drop box located at the entrance from the parking lot. If you choose to utilize this service, please do not leave cash. We recommend leaving checks or money orders with the account number(s) written on them. Although the box is emptied daily, the town cannot be held responsible for any cash payments. As always, your cancelled check is your receipt.

Due Dates
September 7, 2012
December 7, 2012
March 7, 2013
June 7, 2013

The town does not have a grace period policy, interest will accrue immediately after due date. If you have any questions, please call the Tax Collector's Office 401-539-9000 ext.4.

Missing Bills
You may not receive a bill for a variety of reasons.
  • Did you buy a new home? We are required to mail the tax bill to the owner of record as of December 31.
  • Have you refinanced your home? If so, who is responsible to pay your taxes? The financial institution or you? If your taxes are not escrowed to the bank as part of your monthly payment, you are responsible for their timely payment.
  • Have you moved and changed mailing addresses?
It is important to note that the failure to receive a bill does not negate the requirement to pay the tax. Late payments will accrue interest.

Returned Checks
Regretfully, checks that are returned to the town for whatever reason (insufficient funds, closed accounts, etc.) will be assessed a $25 fee plus postage. This fee is required to offset charges incurred when checks are returned by various financial institutions which they are drawn. It is illegal to write a check on an account which does not have the proper funds. Police may be notified.

Tax Sales
The Tax Collector's Office holds periodic tax sales for outstanding real estate. The next tax sale will be on August 15, 2013, at 10 a.m., in the Richmond Town Council Chambers:
