NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
TOWN OF RICHMOND, R.I.
PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE ZONING ORDINANCE
The Richmond Town Council will conduct a public hearing on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 7:00 P.M. at the Richmond Town Hall, 5 Richmond Townhouse Road, on proposed amendments to Title 18 of the Code of Ordinances, also known as the Richmond Zoning Ordinance.
The proposed amendments are intended to bring the ordinance into conformity with current state law. The proposed amendments are summarized as follows:
Ch. 18.04 (General Provisions) – Would exempt non-governmental uses on town property under certain circumstances.
Ch. 18.08 (Definitions) – Would adopt or amend several definitions, including “accessory family dwelling unit,” “building height,” “minimum lot area” as required by 2016 amendments to the statewide zoning enabling legislation, and would add a definition of “farmers’ market.”
Ch. 18.16 (Use Regulations) – Would add a use code for farmers’ markets
Ch. 18.24 (Signs) – Would allow temporary off-site directional sign under certain conditions.
Ch. 18.28 (Off-Street Parking) and Ch. 18.32 (Off-Street Loading) – Would repeal Chapters 18.28 and 18.32 and replace them with Ch. 18.29 (Off-Street Parking and Loading).
Ch. 18.36 (Special Regulations) – Would amend the requirements for accessory dwelling units, restrict parking of some commercial vehicles in residential zoning districts, and establish requirements for the site of a farmers’ market.
Ch. 18.54 (Development Plan Review) – Would replace references to Ch. 18.28 and Ch. 18.32 with a reference to Ch. 18.29.
All interested persons will be given an opportunity to be heard on the proposed amendments at the public hearing. The proposed amendments may be altered or amended during the public hearing, without further advertising, as a result of further study or because of the views expressed at the public hearing. Any such alteration or amendment will be presented for comment during the public hearing.
Interested parties may examine or obtain full copies of the proposed amendments at the Town Clerk's Office, Richmond Town Hall, 5 Townhouse Road, Richmond, R.I., between 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M., Monday through Friday, except legal holidays.
